What is FieldWork?
FieldWork is a community organising tool built by South of the Forge. It helps volunteers capture conversations on doorsteps — without clipboards, forms, or apps getting in the way.
You talk to someone. You record a voice note. The system does the rest.
How does it work?
- 1.You knock on a door and have a conversation
- 2.You open Telegram on your phone and find
@lifehousedoorbot - 3.You hold the mic button and describe what you heard — the address, what the person said, what they're interested in, any skills or resources they mentioned
- 4.You send it — that's it, you're done
- 5.The system transcribes your voice note using AI speech recognition
- 6.An LLM extracts the key information — names, addresses, skills, concerns, contact outcomes
- 7.Everything lands in a database ready for the organising team to use
What do I need?

Privacy & Data
- •Voice notes are processed by our own servers — nothing goes to OpenAI, Google, or any third party
- •All infrastructure is self-hosted on hardware we control
- •Personal data is stored separately from identifiable information (GDPR-aware design)
- •The database password will be changed before any real community data is captured
- •Consent mechanisms are being built for Phase 2
What's on this dashboard?
The right side of this page shows live output from the system:
- •Raw Transcriptions — what the speech-to-text heard from each voice note (appears within 1 minute)
- •Extracted Data — what the LLM pulled out: contact outcomes, skills, resources, concerns (appears automatically 3-6 minutes after transcription)
⏱ Processing Timeline:
The LLM extraction happens automatically but takes several minutes after the transcription completes. The dashboard auto-refreshes every 30 seconds, so extracted data will appear without manual refresh.
This is a prototype dashboard for the organising team. It will evolve as the project develops.
